Water
It is at the heart of a silent and deadly crisis faced by a billion of the world’s most vulnerable people.
Fact: “The amount of money we spend on Christmas in America is close to forty-five times the amount of money it would take to supply the entire world with clean water” (McKinley & others, Advent Conspiracy, 13).
Consider this: .
• 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water.
• 2.6 billion people lack adequate sanitation.
• 3900 children die each day because of dirty water or poor hygiene. (1.4 million a year)
• In most cases, clean water is right beneath their feet, but there is no well, only disease-infested pools of stagnant surface water.
Unlike war and terrorism, the global water crisis does not make media headlines – despite the fact that it claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.
The Christmas Offering this year will support Living Water International. They are a 501(c) 3 organization whose intent is to provide clean drinking water to those who don’t have. We are practicing this year with thousands of other churches – Advent Conspiracy.
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink...
